Position Summary

 

The Desktop Support Technician ensures optimal computer operation to support end-user business tasks. This includes receiving, documenting, prioritizing, and resolving help requests, often providing hands-on support. Key duties involve fielding requests, documenting user information, troubleshooting, escalating as needed, installing software/hardware, performing maintenance, and ensuring compliance with security policies.

Responsibilities

  1. Respond to help requests from end users via phone and email, ensuring courteous and professional communication.
  2. Document end user information, including name, department, contact details, and problem nature.
  3. Establish rapport with users and gather comprehensive details to identify and troubleshoot issues effectively.
  4. Prioritize and schedule technical problems, escalating when necessary to more experienced technicians.
  5. Track and document problem-solving processes, detailing all successful and unsuccessful actions taken until the issue is resolved.
  6. Utilize diagnostic tools and resources such as software updates, drivers, and knowledge bases to aid in troubleshooting.
  7. Stay updated on relevant software and hardware supported by the organization.
  8. Implement fixes at the desktop level, including software installation/upgrades, hardware setup, system configuration, and file backups.
  9. Install and manage antivirus software.
  10. Conduct preventative maintenance on workstations, printers, and peripherals.
  11. Ensure data confidentiality, integrity, and availability across enterprise systems and databases.
  12. Comply with enterprise security standards.
  13. Maintain an accurate inventory of deployed IT assets.

Qualifications

  1. Asset management experience is a must
  2. Experience with ServiceNow is a must
  3. A college diploma or degree in computer science or related field, or at least 2 years of relevant work experience preferred. Certifications like A+, MCP, Google IT Support, or CCNA/MCSE are advantageous.
  4. Ability to read and interpret technical documents and regulations; capable of writing business documents and communicating effectively with various audiences.
  5. Knowledge of computer and networking hardware, familiarity with desktop and server OS, diagnostic utilities, and strong documentation abilities. Exceptional interpersonal skills for effective communication and rapport building.

 

 

Working Conditions

Working conditions: This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, headsets, photocopiers, and fax machines. Team Member will be typically exposed to office noises and interruptions such as printers, phones, and callers.

 

Physical Demand: This is a largely sedentary position which requires Team Member to remain stationary for the majority of the work day. The Team Member will need to occasionally move about inside an office setting to access office machinery. The Team Member will constantly use good manual dexterity with repetitive motions of wrists, hands, and fingers.
